UBC O Nursing Practicum Students

UBC O 3rd year nursing students have the opportunity to do their community placement at camp in 2010.  Nursing students will fill a Personal Support Worker role.

Placement Details:

· Live at the camp for the duration of your practicum

· Provide 1:1 care, support and supervision for assigned camper

· 12 hour days (2.5 weeks of camp + orientation days)

· Attire: casual, fun clothing (silly costumes or comfortable)

· Assignments: learning activity and health promotion project

· Liaison between health care team and counseling/volunteer staff

· Hands on practice of clinical skills (i.e. tube feeds, meds, personal care, catheterizations, check-in duties, transcribing MARs etc.)

Application Process:

Applications are now online.  Students interested in the positions should fill out the application.  They will be contacted by the camp coordinators to have a short interview.  Following the interview, we will begin to work on placing the student with a particular camper.  The actual dates of the practicum will be determined based on the availability of the student and the session that the camper is eligible for.
